Benny Feilhaber is an international American soccer player born on to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He currently plays the midfield with Los Angeles FC in MLS.
Feilhaber, a descendant of an Austrian Jewish family, settled in the United States after spending six years in Brazil. After passing through New York and Texas, his family moved to California where he joined Northwood High School in Irvine and became an important part of the school soccer team’s midfield. After graduating in 2003 he enrolled at the University of California at Los Angeles where he became a key player in the Bruins’ midfield. After his second year at UCLA, Feilhaber is named by the under-20 selection for the Under-20 World Cup in 2005 in the Netherlands.
Professional debut in Germany
His performances in the tournament draw the attention of several European teams and, after the United States representation at the 2005 Maccabiah Games in Israel, Feilhaber signs for Hamburg in July 2005. During the 2005-2006 season Feilhaber plays with the Hamburg reserve team in the third division (Regionalliga). On October 12, 2006, he made his Bundesliga debut as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 home defeat by Schalke 04.
