In 1991, she meets Geoff Barrow in the waiting room of the local labor agency. Sharing the same passion for music, they decided to create Portishead, along with two other musicians, Adrian Utley and Dave MacDonald.

After two studio albums (Dummy in 1994, then Portishead in 1997) and a live (Roseland NYC Live in 1998) with Portishead, she released in 2002 Out of Season in collaboration with Paul Webb (aka Rustin Man), ex- talk Talk bassist. With this album, Beth Gibbons made a rather folk-like turn, far enough from Portishead’s trip hop for which she will rework for their third album, Third, in 2008.

In June 2013, she announced the preparation of a new solo album for Domino Records,.

She sings on the Black Sabbath title of the British metal band Gonga released in April 2014.

Her music is used for film soundtracks such as Rachel Talalay’s Tank Girl in 1995, Diane Bertrand’s L’Annulaire in 2004 and Cédric Klapisch’s Les Poupées Russes in 2005.
