Robert Edward Crane () is a disc jockey and American actor. He is known to have incarnated from 1965 to 1971 Colonel Robert Hogan in the television series Papa Schultz broadcast in France on M6 (called Stalag 13 on Canal +). He was twice named to the Emmy Awards for his work on this sitcom.

Bob Crane was born in Waterbury, Connecticut. He dropped out of college and became a drummer in the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra. In 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Anne Terzian (the couple divorced in 1970). They adopted a daughter, Ana Marie (January 13, 1951), and had three children: Robert David (June 27, 1951), Deborah Ann (June 19, 1959), and Karen Leslie (November 29, 1961). In 1956, he left with his family in California and began his radio career.

He then became interested in comedy and began his acting career at age 33. He soon has a role in The Donna Reed Show from 1963 to 1965 which he continues with the lead role in Papa Schultz. Crane will make some appearances in the cinema but will not meet the same success.

The , he marries the actress Sigrid Valdis (who plays the role of Hilda in Papa Schultz) . A year later was born their son Robert Scott Crane. Separated in 1977, they reconciled before his death.

He is found beaten to death on the in the Winfield Place Apartments, where he was staying in the apartment 132, in Scottsdale, Arizona, he was almost fifty years old. A partner, John Henry Carpenter, has been charged with the murder but is not convicted. Before the murder, while Crane was on the decline, he and Carpenter had filmed pornographic amateur videos where one can see the comedian frolic with many women. The case has not been officially clarified. Although convicted of the murder of Crane, Carpenter is still suspected by the authorities to be the murderer until his death in 1998. Crane rests at the Westwood Cemetery in Los Angeles, where Farrah Fawcett and Marilyn Monroe are also buried.
