John Fogerty (born May 28, 1945) is an American composer, guitarist and singer best known for his work with the Creedence Clearwater Revival group.

John Fogerty and his brother Tom grow up in Berkeley, USA, where John studies piano and gets his first guitar at the age of 12. He meets the other founding members of Creedence Clearwater Revival, bassist Stu Cook and percussionist Doug Clifford, at El Cerrito Junior High School where they are all students. They all start playing together, and soon after they start playing for balls and dances at Berkeley, circa 1959. In 1964 the quartet signs a contract with Fantasy Records in San Francisco, and the company gives the group the name ” The Golliwogs “. They started singing, including “Brown-Eyed Girl” in 1965. In 1967 the group gave itself a new name, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and that’s when they started to have more success. While some of John Fogerty’s original compositions appear on the band’s albums, the covers they made at the beginning (like Susie Q “by Dale Hawkins and I Put a Spell on You by Screamin ‘Jay Hawkins) were the most popular songs. However, with the release of the album Bayou Country (which contains many of Fogerty’s original compositions), the band becomes one of the most popular rock bands in the US It climbs to the Top 40 on the radio and stays there for two years, and the musicians even play at the Woodstock festival. With the release of their 5th album Cosmo’s Factory Creedence Clearwater Revival reaches the peak of its popularity.Just after the early 1970s, Tom Fogerty leaves the group, citing problems with the other members While the band, now a trio, continues to play together for about a year, it is dissolved in 1972 and John Fogerty starts working on solo projects Immediately after the breakup of the band, he released an album called The Blue Ridge Rangers, a bluegrass / country music album on which Fogerty plays all the instruments himself. Two songs on this album, Jambalaya (On the Bayou) (a cover of Hank Williams) and Hearts of Stone make the Top 40. After this album, Fogerty remains silent for three years, until his next recording, a LP called John Fogerty, which does not sell much. This leads to the cancellation of another registration project by Asylum Records. Fogerty will live with his family on a farm in Oregon and enter a period of artistic silence that lasts 10 years. After these 10 years he released an album called Centerfield, which contains quite simple songs. Among these songs, some, like The Old Man Down the Road, Rock and Roll Girls and Centerfield become successes.

In the following years after the dissolution of Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Fogerty refused to play the band’s songs in public. However, in 1987 in Washington DC he ventured to play 8 songs of the band during a concert for veterans of the Vietnam War. After this concert he enters again silently, but shows himself in public every year during induction ceremonies in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1993, Creedence Clearwater Revival was named the recipient of this honor. Fogerty has an opportunity to play with the other members of the group but he refuses.

In 1997 Fogerty released the album Blue Moon Swamp, on which he worked for about four years. The album won a Grammy Award, and the single “Southern Streamline ” went up to number 67 on the C & W chart. After the release of this album, Fogerty toured the United States, where he finally played songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival, including Proud Mary and Fortunate Son, as well as original songs. Shortly after, Fogerty released a live album called Premonition.
